The historic 1968 performance by Johnny Cash in Folsom Prison is still being honored by the city where it took place almost 50 years later.
A crowd of hundreds that included runners, bikers and local officials was on hand in Folsom, California on Saturday as Johnny's daughter Cindy Cash cut the ceremonial ribbon opening phase two of the city's three part Johnny Cash Trail project. The first phase, a 1.2 mile segment of the bike trail, was finished three years ago. Phase two sees the entire 2.5 mile trail completed. A third phase will tell Johnny Cash's story using eight large public artworks.
Ms. Cash told the crowd that if her dad "could see all of you people here, 14 years after he died, he would say, ‘Why me? Why did everyone do this for me?'" (Sacramento Bee)
