A Canadian police officer is receiving praise for letting a shoplifter off the hook and letting him go free with a new shirt and tie.
A young man was caught trying to steal a shirt, tie and socks from a Toronto Walmart. A loss prevention officer held onto him until a police officer arrived to arrest him. But after speaking with the shoplifter, the officer made a judgement call and let him go.
Officer Niran Jeyanesan learned that the 18-year-old needed nice clothes for a job interview and with no money, he believed his only option was to try and steal the items.
The officer explained, "This young person has been facing his own difficulty in life and he was looking to straighten all that by providing for his family and trying to get a job." That why instead of arresting him, the officer let him off the hook and decided to buy him the shirt, tie and socks. (CTV)
