A quilting group has been donating their time and talent, creating quilts for veterans.
The volunteers meet at a sewing shop, flatten strips of fabric – which are mostly donated – and then assemble the strips to make beautiful quilts.
They call themselves the String-A-Long Quilt Guild and have worked with another group – called Quilts of Valor – to create and deliver more than 150 quilts for veterans over the past few years.
The quilts end up at a U.S. military hospital in Germany, where veterans use them on their beds. The volunteers also make quilts for service dogs.
Nancy Moore, one of the group’s leaders, says the effort warms the hearts of the quilters, because it’s fun and it’s their passion. (Chicago Tribune)
