Darius Rucker posted a statement about “professional scammers pretending to be me” online.

“It keeps happening and it breaks my heart every time I hear about it,” the Hootie & the Blowfish star wrote in the statement he shared on Wednesday (October 15). Rucker, who recently announced his engagement to fiancée Emily Deahl, went on to warn fans about the fake accounts, and urged them to report and block the scammers. “If you think you’ve been messaging or chatting with me, my team, or my family… you haven’t. It’s not me. These are professional scammers pretending to be me to take advantage of you financially.”

Rucker said social media users can determine whether it's his real account by looking for the verified blue checkmark, or by visiting his website.

“I do not have a fan club or fan card, and will NEVER contact you asking for money or personal information,” he stated. “My official social profiles have a verified blue checkmark by them, and you can always confirm that it’s them by visiting my website. Please do not communicate with any of these fake profiles, and instead report and block them. I never want to see anyone be taken advantage of. Please be aware and stay alert.”
