Father in Australia Saves Toddler From Dingo Attack

An Australia father is being hailed as a hero after he saved his 14-month-old infant son from a dingo attack after a group of the wild dogs attacked their campervan in the night.

The toddler was sleeping inside the vehicle in a remote portion of Fraser Island in Queensland when the dingo managed to get in and bit his neck, the BBC reports. When the infant began crying, his parents woke, and heard their son's cries "getting further away from the campervan" paramedic Ben Du Toit told local news media.

The father ran out and managed to grab his infant son back from the dingo's jaws.

The toddler was airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital where he was treated for several wounds including two deep cuts to the top of his neck, and minor cuts to his scalp. The boy is conscious and in stable condition as he was being treated. The 14-month-old has since been moved to Queensland Children's Hospital.

The father, who has not been identified, discovered "the dingo dragging the toddler away from the campervan" Du Toit said. "He immediately ran up and grabbed his son and chased some of the dingoes off."

This marks the third dingo attack on Fraser Island so far this year. In January, a 6-year-old boy was attacked by a pack of wild dingoes.
